Author Watch – Best Ways To Get People To Find Your Book

To sell your books people have to be able to find your book. Over the last few months I’ve been testing ways to drive more traffic to our authors books. It has taken about 3 months to finally begin to see really good results. Through this process I’ve learned 3 things that have made a huge difference in our ability to obtain conversions. The conversions that we want are a sale or an email addresses that have been double opted in.

  1. You must have quality traffic to get a conversion. You can determine the quality of your traffic by doing A/B split testing. You can add bit.ly links to the source that you are using to drive your traffic. You can study Google Analytics. You should study the traffic sources for at least 3 months to determine if they are a good source of legitimate traffic. If you are not getting conversions within that time period, you need to evaluate if they are a source worth using.   We will not test beyond 3 months.
  2. During the three months that you are testing the traffic sources the results need to be consistent. If you get 2 conversions one month and 100 conversions the next month you should be concerned as to whether your traffic source can deliver consistent reliable traffic. You may get variations in delivery but it should not be drastic.
  3. Whatever source you decide to use, be specific in the kind of traffic you want. The more targeted your source the more conversions you will get. For example if you want traffic drawn to your book you might use a book review service that you know has thousands on their email list, or place an ad on a site like Good Reads, or you might purchase niche traffic from a company that provides traffic generation. There are many sources of traffic. Once your product is in front of those good sources see if the source is good enough to bring a conversion.

Here are a few sites that you might want to take a look at to bring traffic. Though we do not make any personal recommendations these are sites that you can find a lot of information on line about and see what people think of their services.

I believe that if you consistently drive quality traffic to your book, you will see sales and email conversions. Once you get the emails start building your brand with that audience. For more book marketing information I would highly recommend reading Rock Star Marketing for the Emerging Author and Publishing and Publicity for Smart People. A recent reviewer said of my book “You cannot put a price tag on experience. The lessons learned from the author then shared in this book are like gold. Helping others avoid costly mistakes is a beautiful and wonderful thing. This book should be required reading for anyone that writes a book!”
